I Recently Purchased A Car But I’m Listed On My Moms Auto Insurance And I’m Using This For Covage Is It Legal?
I used to drive a car that was owned and insured by my mom. Now I have my own car, We called the insurance company and transfered the insurance to my car. I think the insurance company thinks the car is still in my mohters name. She said it doesn’t matter, I was listed as a driver on plan anyway. Is this legal? Not sure what to think?

If you informed the insurance company that you or mother wanted the car insured and you are listed as driver, then you are covered. Some friends of mine have their son covered under their blanket policy. He was overseas and now is home. The insurance was going to charge him a lot more money since he “didn’t have insurance” as they said it. So, his parents listed him as a driver and they added him to their insurance and he got a much better rate.
Take care out there…….

Is it legal? It depends on the officer’s point of view. You have a document showing that vehicle with that VIN is insured, however the policyholder and the vehicle owner are two different people. Regardless if it is legal or not, should there be a claim the insurance company does not have to pay for the damages to your vehicle since only the vehicle owner can suffer financial loss from damage to the vehicle. Since the policy holder is not the registered owner the policy holder suffers no financial loss therefore they pay out nothing.

As long as you are listed as a driver in the household and the vehicle will be garaged at your moms you’re OK. It is legal to insure a vehicle on an automobile insurance policy that is not titled to the named insured.

Really. Given that you didn’t mention anything about your family situation, or where you live, I think you just need to ask somebody that actually can tell you. That would be your insurance agent.

Ask your insurance agent – asking here you are getting a bunch of opinions with no true value.
