Does Anyone Know Where You Can Purchase Gap Insurance For Your Car If Your Auto Insurance Doesn’t Offer It?
I bought a 2006 auto a couple weeks ago and when I called my insurance co. to add it, they said they could add GAP insurance, too. (which I need) Now they are saying they can only add it to a NEW car, not used. Anyone know if I can purchase strictly a GAP policy to cover my car? I don’t want to switch insurance because of discounts having my other car, homeowners, etc. through them.

Nope, if you can’t get it through the dealer, or your private auto policy, you can’t get it.
I don’t know of any insurers who will give gap coverage on a car more than two years old, anyway – and as the 2009s are almost out, your car is almost three years old.
Better try to pay it off super fast, so you’re not upside down on it very long.

I don’t know if GAP insurance is available in all states…
I got my GAP insurance from my credit union – with whom I financed my used car.. It appears that there are some sites where you can get quotes on getting GAP insurance also. Perhaps check with the bank/finance company you’re using for the auto loan, they may be able to include it with your car payment.
Best of luck!

Why would you need gap insurance if you have added your auto to your present policy? I thought gap insurance was “inbetween” the auto leaving the lot, and when you decide to add your auto to your present policy.
