Hi, I’m totally new to car rentals (having just turned 21 a few months ago). I’m planning on getting a car from Dollar Car Rentals. I have auto insurance via AAA and I know that if I use a major credit card, there’s some coverage there as well.
Am I required to purchase insurance through Dollar, or am I able to use my own? What about the credit card coverage?
Thanks!
This question is in regards to CAR RENTAL insurance, not typical everyday Auto insurance.
Thanks.

A few years ago when I lived in Oregon Auto insurers could (and did) check your credit but Washington law didn’t allow it- you could get car insurance without giving out your social security number. I am in Nebraska and need to know- do I have to give out my SSN to insurers?

Does any one but me think its bull that one can be refused auto insurance or pay a higher premium because their credit score may be lower than some other guys. Why on earth are we letting car insurance companies get buy with this? Even auto insurance companies having access to our creit history makes no sence and is a further invasion of our privacy. This practice should be outlawed.
Again what does credit score and auto insurance have to do with each other?

They tacked on an additional @$2700 onto my loan and since that time my car payment went from $350 a month to $700 a month. Before this happened, my credit was good, and since after that time my credit changed drastically. I’ve been told that this may be illegal. If anyone has info, please let me know. Oh, and this is in CALIFORNIA.
Thanks!

To be honest I don’t feel that a persons credit rating have anything to do with car insurance. A quote should be an honest quote of what it cost per month and per year. Either you pay your car insurance or not. What risk is this to the Insurance company? It can be canceled by the company if payment is not made. The company doesn’t pay for an accident that occur if the policy is not in force. There is no loss to them. What is the point of making someone pay a higher premium if Continue reading..

I’m trying to get auto and renter’s insurance and I do not understand why my credit score is brought down because of this. Can’t they tell I’m not our trying to get several credit cards or lines of credit or loans? How can this be dealt with and changed or stopped? If this is going to happen, how will my credit look in two years when I am ready to buy a newer vehicle?

Last year, I contacted a few insurance companies to obtain quotes on home and auto insurance. I then selected one company. I guess everybody does this once in a while.
I recently received a letter from one of the companies. The letter says that they could not provide me with a quote or coverage because of the information they obtained from ChoicePoint Insurance Consumer Center. They actually did provide me with a quote but I ignored it. They stated further that I could obtain a free copy of Continue reading..
