Why Are Motor Scooters Exempt From Motorcycle Laws?
In Maryland motor scooters are all over the streets and highways, no insurance, tags..etc. and no crash helmets. These scooters cause accidents, property damage and personal injuries without controlling laws such as apply to motorcycles.

There are too many laws right now for a “free” country. Leave it be before the government finds a way to tax it… I mean not tax make you pay “fees”.

Different states have different laws.
In Maryland, a scooter under 70cc is legal to ride on public roads that have a speed limit under 50mph – without requiring a motorcycle license, insurance coverage and register the vehicle, same as a bicycle.
Most states classify a scooter over 50cc a motorcycle and must follow the DVM laws for all motorized vehicles.http://www.dmv.org/md-maryland/other-typ…http://home.ama-cycle.org/amaccess/laws/…
