Exceptional First Car With Low Insurance?

I am straight ‘A’ student, and I have completed the Driver’s Education course at my highschool. My family does not really make that much money, but my parents would like to buy me a car at an exceptional rate. I am probably only going to live in Florida for another year, and then I am moving out to California. Depending on what type of car I decide to get, I don’t know if I will be taking it with me or not. My mom wants to buy me a brand new car, meaning a current 2008-09 model, but I keep explaining to her that it’s very hard to find a cheap new model (unless someone knows something I don’t?). I would just like some third party input on this decision. What is the best car company, and what car model would have the lowest insurance rate? I have tried researching Mazda, Acura, Nissan, and Honda, because I prefer these companies; however, I haven’t had any luck because I’m so new to shopping for a vehicle. I like hybrids, and it would help if I am able to get a car with great mileage as well. Of course, I’m sure many of you know this is because of our depleting economy, lol. Ok, I don’t mean to make this a book, I’m just trying to give as much information as I can so I can maybe get a clear answer. Thanks in advance =).

shipping a car out to another state is way too much money, so buy a cheaper car now, sell it, and buy another one once your in CA.
A new car wouldn’t be the most economical, since new cars have higher insurance rates, and higher depriciation rates. Try looking into an 00-04.
If your looking for cheaper car insurance, stay away from two doors- especially the mustang, and the acura integra, since those seem to be popular amongst street racers. Also, color DOES make a difference. Buying a red, yellow, orange, or black car WILL jack up your rates (i didnt believe it either until i owned a black car).
If your in a bit of a higher budget for a used car, a newly used VW Jetta is a great car. Its luxurious, safe, and sporty, and i have never had one fail on me.
Other great cars are the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla/Echo, Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe.
    good luck!

Probably because the OP asked for cars with low insurance.
Hondas, being the most stolen cars out there, are the exact opposite in that regard.
    That’s why.

A small compact car by a well-known maker will have cheap insurance. Insurance is also cheaper if you live out in the burbs where there is little theft or vandalism. It is also cheaper if you are an adult, and if you have a clean record.

The cars with the lowest insurance rates are toyota camry’s and hyundai accents or elantras. I dont recommend any hyundai vehicle, especially if you are going to drive quite a distance with it.

Hybrids are no good if you are doing alot of highway/freeway driving…. Hybrids are designed for Local, start and stop travel! (keep that in mind)
Honda’s have Fantastic resale value, so if you take care of the vehicle, and if you might sell the vehicle next year, I would go with a civic. I took Young Drivers and bought my 07 when it was brand new and my insurance was only $1526 CDN … This year, its $1377…. I usually get about 550 KM/Per Tank of gas.. Which is pretty good.. If I do highway driving, I get almost 700…
Toyotas have great re-sale value as well (Hondas and Toyotas are rated #1 for resale) The Carolla has very much approved its self over the years! I havent seen the 09′s, but the 08′s (Model S or XRS) are really sporty and nice!
VW Jetta as well.. You can get almost 1300 KM per tank of deisel! which is effin rediculous!
why the tumbs down people? I dont understand?~

For a low rate on the insurance, have it insured in your parents’ name, with you as an additional driver. Make sure the car is registered in your parent’s name, so that the insurance company will believe the story that it’s actually a family car that might occasionally be driven by you. You can drive it all the time, though, in real life.
For a cheap car, I believe that a new econobox would be best, as you won’t have to pay much for repairs in the first year – after all, it’s a new car… Sell it after the first year for about 70 % of the new price, if you didn’t put a ding in it.
Another option is to do what I did when i bought my first car: I bought a 10 year old taxi cab which also served as a police car before that. 500 000 miles, second or third engine, etc… If you are able to do small repairs yourself, a used car will most likely be cheaper.
All cars will need repairs, service and will cost you more money than you initially think. Get a car below what you think you can afford, and have the rest of it available in case you should need it for anything with the car. Invest it if you didn’t need it :D
A place to look is also VW – they make a nice car called the Jetta. It gets good mileage, drives well, and doesn’t cost much more than the jap ones.
Oh yeah: insurance (liability) will be lower if you get a stick shift. I would NOT get any other coverage if you don’t owe money on the car, personally. It gives you an incentive to take better care when driving, too :)
