Should I Contact My Auto Insurance For Claim Or Not?
3 weeks ago, it was snowing heavily. While taking a slow turn into work, my car (a 2002 honda) slid on black ice and hit the curb. I had to get it towed to a mechanic nearby. One wheel is completely damaged, and lot of other things bent out of shape which needs replacement including sub-frame. I am quoted at ~$1,900. I don’t plan on keeping the car for more than a year.
Should I pay out of pocket or should I call my insurance and file a claim. My deductible is $500. But they may consider it as my fault and increase my premium, and if I buy a new car a year later, the premium would be even higher due to this report on my file.
Is there a set rule that; it makes sense to file a claim vs pay out of pocket if the damages are beyond a certain amount?

They will consider it your fault because you failed to maintain control of your car. They don’t car if you hit a patch of ice or not. You were not the only one to go over that patch of ice and everybody who went over it did not have an accident.
As far as wether or not you should claim it, that is a personal decision.

Unless you have a horrible driving record and a ton of claims the increase in premiums will never be $900 — maybe 3 – 5% for a few years then the clock is reset so to speak.
Me? I file the claim in a heartbeat to save $900.
