Can I Call An Auto Adjuster For A Quote And Then Not Use Them?
Car value (Kelley Blue Book) about $4200-4500 (just bought it a couple of months ago for $5K). Older car, low low mileage. Seriously excellent condition, fancy wheels, no similar cars close to the low mileage anywhere near $5K within a 200 mile radius. Body work $5K est from body shop. Do I bother calling insurance company to send an adjuster out, or should I just fix it myself and save the insurance cost hit because they will total it anyway? If an adjuster gives an estimate am I then bound by their decision, which seems as if it will be to total the car? If they look at it will they raise my insurance even if I fix it myself? I am not sure what to do!

Your question is REALLY confusing. Were you involved in an accident or do you want a quote???? If you were involved in an accident you need to call and speak to your agent.

Yes. That is what quotes are for, for you to shop around.

Your question is some what un clear as to exactly what your after. But I`ll try and cover all of what I think your interested in.
If you are looking for a quote as far as to how much your insurance is going to cost you for an older car, then the average adjuster will not be of much help. You need to call the sales people for premium costs.
If you have an older vehicle with a lot of extras which bring the value up on your vehicle, then you can have an apraiser from the insurance companys verify the improvements and get a quote for the total package.
On the on the other hand if you are asking if you have to use your insurance companys damage report in getting your car repaired, then the answer is no. Altho their report will be very helpfu. You have to start somewhere. Many of todays insurance companys have gone to a direct repair facility program, where when you sign your agreement with them you do agree to use their recommended body repair shops. Generally if you do use their shop, then the repairs will be guranteed for as long as you own the vehicle and any where in the United States. But, if you elect to use some other shop, your company will still pay any reasoable bill but will not stand behind the your chosen body shops repairs. So if the shop you choose messes your car up or a wheel falls off 6 months later, its between you and the shop you choose.
One other thing. When an adjuster gives his written report and estimated cost for repairs on your vehicle, it is just that, an estimate, that can be adjusted all along the way as your car is being repaired. There are hidden damages in most accidents that you can not see until you remove some of the cars panels. The insurance companys don`t mind at all paying for these hidden damages. The may want to inspect the damaged parts, which they have every right to, but they will pay the bill.
As far as you doing your own repairs, well I was in the body shop business over 25 years and have yet to see my first job that the vehicle owner done that turned out correctly. Most novice body technicians can`t even get close in repairing even the simplest and most minor damages on todays vehicles. I hope this helps
